Fertile Dove

Not sure which is worse...being blasted for my previous blog, or only receiving one comment...

Last week a strange thing happened. I got home from work and saw a dove sitting on my truck (I had driven my husband's truck that day) I thought it was a little strange, because this dove wasn't just sitting on the truck...she wasn't budging. I walked right by her and...nothing. She didn't fly away she just looked at me with her creepy beady black eyes.

I grabbed my cell phone and snapped this pic.

As soon as I snapped the pic, she was startled and flew away which revealed...to my surprise....this:

ON MY TRUCK!!!! Ok - Here is a severly emotional woman who already feels lost and hopeless and is trying to recover from another pregnancy loss - now she is faced with the fact that she will eventually have to drive this truck and would therefore be the cause of immintent death of the un-hatched little dove inside the egg.

To make matters even worse...the next morning I checked on my little dove family surprised to find this:

She laid another egg!!!! Now I am really freaking out and can not in any way disturb these eggs. I am just going to have to suck it up and drive my husband's truck for the next month while the mom incubates, hatches and raises these little baby doves. My husband of course is NOT THRILLED and thinks I am a little loony - ok a lot loony.

Yes, I am a freak of nature but seriously....how many times have you heard of this happening?

Is there some coded message behind this?

I think it is awesome! I would do the exact same thing. Good for you. You are not loony, just someone who cares.

You could just move it. I used to work at a wildlife rehabilitation center and we got this situation alot. Just move the entire nest to an obvious spot that the mother bird can find it and you'll be okay. She won't abandon it, just make sure it's close to the original spot where she can find it and it's not in a place where other animals can get to it

I have never seen anything like this before. I am with you on leaving the truck parked. I don't think you are looney at all. Tell Pace she is just trying to be a mommy as you are you that you don't want to come between her and her babies. This is really a sign for you future I think. :) Love ya.

Yep, my moms coming out she'll be here next Monday the 22nd till Friday. Please pray for me its going to be a stressful visit.
~thanks for the comment on lil Chy. ill pass it along to her mom.~

First, I think your previous post expressed what anyone in your situation would be feeling. I think all you can do is pray and or think about your options and try to do what feels right. By choosing one, you are not ruling out the chance of later pursuing the other. Good luck!

This bird story is so sweet! And I hate birds! I don't think I could bear to move it either. See, you are already a good mom. :)

Bite me! is what I have to say to the haters. I wish you posted their words of encouragememnt, I could us a good laugh! :)

I thought it was a great post!

I agree with you on this, do not touch the bird or eggs. This is your sign from God! :) Maybe "twins" are in your future (adopted and biological child)!

I don't know what post it was that drew such criticism (??), but the dove eggs are really something else. I would work on protecting them myself (though it seems like maybe you could get away with moving them).

Oh how neat! I don't know if you could move it or not, but even if you could, I would be tempted to leave it just to watch life happen. We had that happen last year inside our grill (not a dove, but just regular black birds). I posted pics on my blog but that may have been before I "met" you. :)

Maybe it's a sign for you to have hope? I think it is.

What a good person you are to let the dove 'nest in peace'!!! :)

That is so amazing and beautiful! I would be so torn about what to do with the nest, too. Can you call some animal organization that knows about birds and get help moving it or something?

Personally it would have been a sign for me since I have a dove on my shoulder that represents hope and faith that one day we would have a baby. So it would have CREEPED me out!

I think you're amazing! You're saving a mother from the heartache you've been through. You could think of those two little doves as your angel babies.
